To All Users Of These Cross Country Ski Trails

2011-12-05

The Kamsack Ski Club has undertaken a number of initiatives to improve the public's cross country skiing experience at Duck Mountain Provincial Park. We are currently in the process of developing more Skate (a.k.a. Freestyle) cross-country ski trails adjacent to some of our fabulous existing Classic cross-country ski trails. When completed, we are planning to have approximately 30 km of combined skate & classic trails with an additional 25 km of classic only trails. The popularity of skate skiing has experienced tremendous growth in the last number of years in the under 45 age group, especially children & young adults to the point where it is the preferred choice of the majority of cross-country skiers. The best way to ensure cross-country trail grooming at Duck Mountain Provincial Park is to continue to grow the numbers involved in the sport by appealing to children and young adults. We need to provide skate trails for all to enjoy. We are also embarking on an ambitious multi-year project of improving & upgrading our trail signs with trail distances, trail difficulty, shelter directions & shelter distances. The amount of donations will determine the extent & time for completion of this project. Duck Mountain Provincial Park has been unable to provide sufficient funding required for essential trail development and improvements. The Kamsack Ski Club continues to bear the burden of raising funds for these initiatives. In the past, use of these trails has been at no charge. Consider any other form of winter recreation; a fee for trail usage is required - snowmobiling, downhill skiing, etc. Also, consider that Duck Mountain Provincial Park does NOT charge any vehicle entrance fees in the winter. We have developed a web site, www.KamsackSkiClub.ca , for updated information on trail conditions, trail grooming, instruction clinics, club events, loppets, etc.

The Kamsack Ski Club is suggesting a voluntary payment for use of these trails:
$5.00/day for use of the golf course trails
$8.00/day for use of any other trails
$99.00 unlimited annual pass
Children 18 & under no charge when accompanied by an adult.
These fees are consistent with fees charged at similar cross-country ski venues.
